“You cannot create from a depleted state.”

Working with Coach Raven has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for a second book. Coach Raven helped me publish my first book and she is a remarkable listener. The current book was a concept only, and she met me exactly where I was, helping me brainstorm content, shape it into an outline, and then move steadily through chapters week by week.

What stands out most is how much care she brings to the process. Every week, she’s just as focused on making sure I’m taken care of as she is on making sure the chapters get written. Early on she told me, ‘You cannot create from a depleted state,’ and that one sentence shifted how I think about writing altogether. It taught me to lead with self compassion instead of pushing through. If you have an idea for a book and don’t know where to start, I can’t recommend Raven highly enough. She has a gift for drawing the book out of you gently and expertly, the whole way from inside your head and heart onto the page.

“I don’t have to do this alone.”

Before working with Coach Raven, I struggled to organize the massive, emotional landscape of my memoir. Every detail felt relevant, and I didn’t know where to begin. Raven helped me wrangle my story into a workable outline that still honors the heart of my journey. Her guidance helped me find clarity, focus, and a path forward.

What I enjoyed most was the accountability of our weekly calls (and her lighthearted humor!). It was so rewarding to know that each week, I made it one step closer to my dream of completing a full draft.

My biggest takeaway was realizing how valuable it is to have a coach who can offer both structure and perspective. Having someone like Raven in my corner made the process feel less overwhelming and reminded me that I don’t have to do this alone.

“Structure, accountability, and confidence.”

I’ve always dreamed of writing a book, but I struggled to find the time, discipline and belief in myself to make it happen. Coach Raven gave me the structure, accountability and confidence I needed to transform my ideas into a [children’s book] completed manuscript in just six weeks.

She helped me lay the groundwork for my book, define my target audience, and think through the essentials of my story, from developing the plot and characters to envisioning the setting and illustrations. She also provided me with the right mix of encouragement and tough love to help me break through my writing blocks, set realistic goals to accomplish each week, and stay focused and inspired.

Our weekly sessions were insightful and fun! Though I still have work to do to get my book published, Coach Raven’s expertise and support empowered me to take the first steps toward realizing my dream of becoming an author—and I’m so grateful for her guidance.

“She tops the list.”

Raven has been a total pleasure to work with. I have worked with several editors in the past and she tops the list. She understood what I was looking for, stuck to the schedule, and, most importantly, provided helpful feedback and suggestions to improve my book. You definitely want to hire Coach Raven for your editing needs! – Sharon Harmon, Gluten-free the Right Way!

“Raven has expertise that doesn’t show up on a resume.”

Giving birth to a book is nothing like giving birth to a baby! How would I know, I’m a guy? Well, here’s my perception.

Seven years ago, “my first book” was edited. It’s in quotes because when I got it back from the editor, I knew that draft didn’t have what I believed it needed to deliver a powerful, concise message. For six years, those book ideas wouldn’t leave me alone. Then at the perfect time of my life, while taking the slow route along the Oregon coast, I began writing another angle of the same topic.

The ocean inspired me, resulting in a focused four months. Words flowed up and back “on the shore” of my laptop. It was exhilarating. I believed this new creation was ready to edit, and found Raven through a friend.

Even as I sent off the manuscript I had mixed feelings. On one hand, I was thrilled to get it off my plate, on another, I wondered if she’d tell me if it wasn’t as powerful as I thought. She read it once as a reader, then a second time to make suggestions. That’s what an editor does.

I didn’t know what I didn’t know, but I learned there’s a big difference between an editor and a book coach.

Raven has expertise that doesn’t show up on a resume.

She’s soft spoken, discerning and compassionate, yet direct with sword-cutting precision with her spoken and written words. Also, she created an organic container of reciprocal accountability that allowed me a creative space to flourish.

This came with some initial agreements: commit to a timeline for the next chunk of writing, word count, days I would write, and when I would send her the next chapter. The container was both helpful and sometimes didn’t quite fit me.

I don’t know exactly how it happened, but her process accommodated my idiosyncrasies while propelling me forward with book writing. One week, I committed to writing one chapter and delivered three. I’m confident this third draft will be published and deliver the punch I’d imagined – thanks to book coaching with Raven.

Also, I’m learning she knows a thing or two about book marketing strategies. I’m excited for this next stage.

So, if you too have book ideas bouncing around your head and need a trusted, magical human to walk with you, bounce ideas off, and support your progress getting your work out to the world, I highly recommend making an appointment with Raven Petty.

“Being met with understanding, not judgment.”

When I started working with Raven, my life felt like a constant battle between my current self and my future self. My current self would procrastinate and constantly sabotage my future self. The things I knew I wanted—and needed—to do felt elusive and out of reach.

Raven helped me remove the mental clutter from my life and allowed my current and future selves to coexist in a mutually beneficial way. Working with Raven means being met with understanding, not judgment—but also with the accountability needed for real growth. Raven brings out the best version of you in a kind, fun, and thoughtful manner.

“I feel confident that I will publish a book that I am proud of.”

I have been batting around the idea of writing a book for a couple of years and got serious in 2024 when I attended a writer’s retreat. The retreat was wonderful, and I learned so much during it and during the 8-week class that followed. However, when the class ended, I found myself spinning. I spent a couple of unproductive months trying to stay focused and motivated before I realized I needed help. I reached out to Coach Raven and thankfully she was accepting new clients!

Working with Coach Raven has been an incredibly rewarding experience. She has a remarkable ability to listen deeply and understand exactly what support I need. She has helped me to refine my outline, clearly identify my ideal reader, and organize my thoughts. During our weekly meetings, Coach Raven provides me with resources, exercises, and encouragement that have truly helped me to find and stay in the groove. Together, we set realistic and achievable goals for each week, and she holds me accountable to my commitments. I feel confident that at the end of this journey, I will publish a book that I am proud of, and I am grateful for Coach Raven’s support and guidance along the way.

I highly recommend Coach Raven to anyone looking to write anything! Whether you want to write the next great American novel, your memoir, a comic book, or a newsletter, I am confident that Coach Raven can help you craft your masterpiece!
